LEID Products BACS System Delivers Critical Value to Government Research Facility Enforcing Secure and Efficient Asset Management

LEID Products BACS System Delivers Critical Value to Government Research Facility Enforcing Secure and Efficient Asset Management

LEID Products publishes case study detailing a completed redesign of armory space at a government facility, BACS Asset Management System solution eliminated issues related to tracking, securing and storing weapons.

Auburn Hills, MI – February 5, 2015 – LEID Products, LLC., the leader of electronic locker and cabinet storage with biometric asset protection and control, today announced details of a project it completed at an undisclosed high-profile government research facility. The facility is protected by an internal police department employing 100 sworn officers. The command staff was in the process of redesigning the facility’s armory space and realized the need to address significant issues related to its manual process for managing weapons. The command staff brought LEID Products in to remediate the issues and assist with designing the space so it would function as an efficient, safe and secure area.

Poor design of its armory space coupled with the inefficiency of manually logging items in and out were the two main factors driving the command staff’s decision for a complete overhaul of its armory process and weapon storage. After the agency’s thorough research of available options, LEID Products was contracted to complete the project.

LEID Products team worked diligently alongside the command staff’s team to install the BACS Asset Management System, which provides inventory of all firearms. Authorized users are able to access the self-service BACS ID Station Kiosk through biometric identification. Anyone with approved access can individually sign out and return weapons identified via RFID chip. The system provides government auditors with a much more accurate electronic recap of inventory than ever before. Moreover, inventory can be accessed in real time by request. The facility stores its weapons in LEID’s electronic SmartRail Gun Racks and other […]

How BACS Works – The Field-proven Solution to Proper Storage of Weapons, Evidence and Critical Assets

How BACS Works – The Field-proven Solution to Proper Storage of Weapons, Evidence and Critical Assets

The BACS ID Station Kiosk serves as the control point for access to assets stored in LEID’s electronic storage units – various configurations of lockers, gun racks, handgun safes and key cabinets per each unique application needs. The kiosk houses a biometric (fingerprint) reader to allow only authorized users to access assets; each user is restricted to access only the items they have been qualified to use. For tracking purposes, the kiosk includes a RFID or barcode reader for asset verification. Additional layers of security can be added with options including a hand geometry scanner and card reader.

BACS is a fully self-service access system. When an officer arrives for duty, all they need to do is log into the BACS Kiosk via fingerprint verification and use the touch screen to select from his or her list of available equipment. At the end of the shift, the officer simply logs in and selects ‘return’ from the touch screen. The system automatically lists the equipment he/she checked out. The officer must scan the RFID chip or barcode identifying the equipment to electronically open the storage unit for return. The officer also has the ability to flag an item for maintenance.

The kiosk traces every transaction for easy viewing by department administrators in real time. The administrator can log into the system – through remote web-enabled access – to see where each firearm/asset is at any given time. Web-enabled remote management allows the administrator to manage the system at all times – on and off-site.

LEID Products – The Industry Update

Take a peek at our fastest growing market segments – what’s new, what’s hot!
Law Enforcement/Government Agencies – LEID Products was originally formed to serve this market and our law enforcement business continues to grow, spreading across many sectors including federal agencies, military facilities, local, state, and university police departments.

What’s new? We were honored early this year when a federal agency asked us to develop an add-on to our high performance BACS Asset Management tracking system – a handgun safe – hence the birth of our newest addition to the BACS product line, the SmartGuard Handgun Safe. Now we can extend the BACS Armory system onto the office floor – perfect for federal agencies. No, you do not need to check that firearm into a set of lockers at the entrance of your building or floor.  Instead, carry it to your desk and safely store it in the biometrically accesses SmartGuard Handgun safe securely mounted under your desk and tied into the BACS Armory System – secure, accountable and readily accessible in the event of an emergency. Transforming the armory, LEID Products is staying at the forefront with its BACS product line.

In addition, The BACS Evidence System continues to gain ground in the market as forward thinking departments realize the need for tighter chain of custody and see the many benefits of automating the drop off and pick up of evidence. The BACS Evidence System has earned accolades from trusted and respected law enforcement resources such as Officer.com and PoliceOne.com.

College and Universities – This is a fairly new market segment for LEID.  Perhaps it is the unfortunate campus shootings we have seen in recent years that are driving the colleges and universities to invest more […]

LEID Products Keeps Officers Safe with SMARTGUARD™ Handgun Safe

LEID Products Keeps Officers Safe with SMARTGUARD™ Handgun Safe

Secure, tamperproof handgun storage unit attaches to furniture in law enforcement and government agencies, integrates with BACS Asset Management System providing safety and accountability

Auburn Hills, MI –March 6, 2014– LEID Products, LLC., the leader of electronic locker and cabinet storage with biometric asset protection and control, today introduced a new product, the SmartGuard Handgun Safe, to the enhance the BACS Asset Management System used for armory storage. The SmartGuard Handgun Safe safely secures a single firearm in a biometrically accessible convenient tamper-proof under desk mount storage unit.   The new handgun safe is managed and configured through the BACS Kiosk to ensure proper asset accessibility, tracking and maintenance. Developed at the request of a federal agency, the new product is now available to law enforcement and government agencies that require such weaponry.

Similar to the BACS SmartRail Gun Rack, Electronic Access Cabinets, Key Cabinets and Electronic Modular Access Units, the SmartGuard Handgun Safe is managed and configured from the central BACS Kiosk so an administrator can enroll users, manage access permissions, view logs for tracking and ensure proper maintenance and accessibility. The SmartGuard is accessed through a separately mounted biometric reader, which identifies authorized users via fingerprint to unlock. While the SmartGuard is configured and reports its logged events back to the central location, it is also capable of offline operation. The unit will still allow access to the storage location by a previously authorized user in the event of an interruption in communication to the central location. A lockout feature, established by the administrator, limits the number of transactions that can occur without communication to the central location.  The SmartGuard unit has a single cable input for both power and communication, utilizing a single […]
